Martin Luther King jr was a baptist minister and a civil rights activist. He fought for rights for African Americans and led the peaceful protests. He was the driving force behind the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1963. When he was assassinated that wasn't the first time someone had threatened his life. About 10 years before his assassination he was stabbed in the chest with a letter opener by a mentally ill African American women.

James immediately fled after he shot Dr. King. James shot Dr. King through his window while Dr. King was on his balcony of room 306. It is said to be the FBI's most expensive manhunt ever. He fled to 5 different countries and the FBI finally caught up with him in England. Once he returned to Tennessee he immediately admitted to killing Martin Luther King jr. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison but died 30 years into his sentence.
